UNESCO: Draft Guidelines for the Use of AI Systems in Courts and Tribunals
On 2 August 2024, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched an open consultation on new guidelines for the use of AI in judicial systems. Following the UNESCO Survey on the Use of AI by Judicial Operators, the "Draft UNESCO Guidelines for the Use of AI in Courts and Tribunals" of July 2024 aim to ensure AI technologies are integrated into judicial systems in a way that upholds justice, human rights and the rule of law.
Consultation
The UNESCO Guidelines for AI use in Courts and Tribunals are shaped by the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of AI and open for public contributions in English to inform their development.
The UNESCO encourages stakeholders, including judicial professionals, legal experts, and the public, to review and provide feedback on the draft guidelines which are available here and invites you to share your comments and feedback through the form here by Thursday, 5 September 2024.
Background
The Draft Guidelines are developed as part of the UNESCO's Gobal Toolkit on AI and the Rule of Law funded by the European Commission Project "Supporting Member States in Implementing UNESCO's Recommedations on the Ethics of AI through Innovative Tools".
